Did you know that 70% of family offices lose their wealth by the second generation?
So how did Emirati Entrepreneur & CEO, Mohammad BinHendi, do the opposite?
I met Mohammad BinHendi a few years ago during a critical time in the 50 year long legacy of BinHendi Enterprises which is one of the top 10 family office conglomerates in the UAE started by legendary Emirati entrepreneur Mr. Mohi-Din BinHendi.
After more than 50 years of being at the top, which is when most family office businesses of this enormous size usually fail, It was time for a change of leadership. It was time for the Deputy Chairman Mohammad BinHendi to take over. And he did it at the young age of 23 making him one of, if not, the youngest deputy chairmen of a family office of this size in the history of the UAE.
And within a short 4 years, at only 27 years old, Mohammad BinHendi did the improbable. He turned BinHendi enterprises from a company in tough times during covid in to a successful, lean, high tech, profitable conglomerate that now continues to grow and has just expanded to the GCC, India & Africa.
This proved that Mohammad's vision & mission, which is to ensure BinHendi Enterprises continues to grow its legacy as a leader of customer experience in luxury retail within the GCC and beyond, is working.
So how did Mohammad BinHendi do this? What skills did he posses that made him different than the other 70% who almost certainly lead the family office conglomerates to fail?
Here are the skills that i noticed while observing Mohammad:
-Ability to implement vision into reality
-Ability to appreciate the legacy that was built & having the willingness to keep it growing
-Being well rounded on technology developments for digitalizing & systemizing businesses
-Ability to create corporate governance and structure
-Ability to bring smart people to work together
-Ability to analyze business opportunities & avoid unprofitable ventures
-Ability to take rapid action
-Ability to not use consultants and develop in-house solutions
-Ability to master growth marketing
However, there is one specific skill that makes him completely different than 99% of entrepreneurs that I met. Mohammad has the ability to be tolerant. He has the ability to be calm, listen and then respond with self-control.
--->> In other words, he has mastered the lost art of impulse control.
So, what can be learned from the story of Mohammad BinHendi?
-You are never too young to take on massive responsibility
-Don't doubt yourself or believe the stats quo
-Learn to think huge
-Learn to be tolerant
-Develop unshakable impulse control
